12/24/2008 - Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Colorado Avalanche center Paul Stastny is out indefinitely with a broken forearm.

The Quebec native suffered the injury late in the third period of Tuesday's 5-4 overtime victory over the Phoenix Coyotes after being struck by a slap shot.

Stastny, who inked a five-year contract extension last month, is the club's leading scorer this season with 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) in 34 games.

Selected in the second round (44th overall) of the 2005 draft by Colorado, Stastny had 28 goals and 78 points in 2006-07 and finished second to Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin in the race for Calder Trophy, which honors the league's top rookie. He also established an NHL record for the longest point streak by a rookie (20).

Stastny led the team in scoring with 71 points in 66 games last season and was selected to his first All-Star game, but couldn't play because of an appendectomy.
