07/20/2010 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Detroit Tigers on Tuesday placed third baseman Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal on his left hand.
Inge was hit on the hand by a pitch in Monday's game with Texas and is expected to miss the next 4-to-6 weeks.
Rangers starter Scott Feldman had a fastball tail off the plate and in on Inge's hands during the third inning. The third baseman tried to spin away from the pitch, but could not avoid the contact, with his pinky finger absorbing the blow.
He initially remained in the game but was replaced in the fifth.
In 88 games this season, Inge is batting .263 with six home runs and 40 RBI. The 33-year-old hit 27 homers and drove in 84 runs while holding a .230 average over 161 games in 2009.
To fill the roster spot, Detroit recalled pitcher Casey Fien from Triple-A Toledo. Fien is 1-1 with a 2.33 earned run average and four saves in 31 games with the Mud Hens this year. He previously appeared in one game for the Tigers, hurling two scoreless innings on June 30 against Minnesota.
